Nearly 6 years after the original was released, the new, and upgraded Super Nintendo Entertainment System came out. The main differences were that instead of running on 8-bit software like the original, it would now run on 16-bit software, also the games on the SNES were generally much higher quality and had much better graphics than the games on the NES. The SNES was discontinued in 2003 and sold 49 million copies. It's best selling game was Super Mario World with 26.30 million copies.
