jan 1, 597 - Augustine + missionaries
Description:
Augustine's task was to convert the Anglo-Saxons.
First, Britain had its own set of religious icons: Pagan gods of the earth and Roman gods of the sky. Then the Angles, Saxons and Jutes came (Pagans), but Christianity survived in the West. Missionary activities continued. During that time, St. Augustine was sent by the Pope from Neapol – he brought Christianity to Britain (the difficulty in developing faith was most likely linguistic). Ireland was Christian first – St. Patrick, it spread to Scotland to South.
