jun 12, 1963 - Medgar Evers Murdered
Description:
Medgar Evers was the field secretary for the NAACP in Mississippi, recruiting members in the area, planning demonstrations, and striving to integrate the University of Mississippi Law School. Byron De La Beckwith assassinated Evers, and the national outrage spawning from this provided the support needed to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which outlawed discrimination based on race, sex, religion, or nationality.
