On Mar 2 1836, a convention in Washington had been held with American Texans to declare the independence and separation between Texas and Mexico.The provisional president was David Burnet and the commandeer in chief was Sam Houston. Once the boarder and independence separating the two countries was set, Texans allowed slavery, which the Mexicans had previously banned.
