jan 1, 400 BC - Democritus's Theory of atoms

Description:

In about 400B.C., Another Greek, Democritus, made up a theory that explained that matter was made of tiny particles. He said that each element had a different kind of particle and that these particles would combine to make matter. He named these particles atoms. He also believed that all atoms were different sizes, were all in forms of geometric shapes and they were always in constant motion. This idea sort of changed the way to think about matter. He based it off of the four-element model but made it more profound. Unfortunately, this idea was not accepted by a Greek influential figure named Socrates, but if he would have accepted it, science would be much more developed a lot earlier.
