oct 13, 2016 - How to start skateboarding (again)
Description:
GQ Online
Plenty of people give up running when they hit their mid-Thirties, but I'm not sure how many do so to spend more of their free time skateboarding. That's what I did in April this year when, having posted my fastest marathon time, I turned my back on more than a decade of running so I could play on a four-wheeled toy more often.
I rediscovered skating after taking my son to the local skatepark so he could scooter around; after one trip watching the action behind a newspaper, a long forgotten urge, dormant for 20 years, flooded over me to get back on a skateboard just to see if, you know, dad still could. By the next visit I was thrashing around (OK pootling), on a set-up I'd cobbled together, trying to land kick flips like it was 1996. I could, just, and I was hooked again, utterly.
