Description:

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Atsutoshi Nishida, one of the three former Toshiba presidents involved in a damages suit over a bookkeeping scandal, died of a heart attack Friday, the company said Saturday. He was 73.

Nishida took the helm at Toshiba in 2005 after overseeing the industrial group's personal computer unit. During his tenure as president, Toshiba decided to buy U.S. nuclear power company Westinghouse Electric which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in March.

Nishida was one of five former executives against whom the company filed the suit seeking up to 3.2 billion yen ($28.2 million) in damages amid allegations that they were involved in falsifying financial reports.
