'Every doctor, nurse, and driver of these
units has achieved immortality [...] Pick
up any photos and you find them smiling -
hiding their trials and troubles, and never
revealing the awful conditions under which
they have had to work. [...] if you only
knew - [...] that ghastly shambles, the
plague-stricken fields, the scenes of pain,
horror, and devastation in which these
women have laboured you would not
sleep to-night.'
