jan 1, 1949 - Erwin Chargaff discovers link between base proportion and species in DNA
Description:
- Biochemist Erwin Chargaff discovered a link between the proportions of bases in DNA and the species the DNA had come from
- He also discovered that the amount of adenine (A) and the amount of thymine (T) in the DNA were always equal.
- He also found that the amount of cytosine (C) and the amount of guanine (G) in the DNA were always equal.
- Chargaff's discovery was very important as it allowed more scientists to begin to understand how DNA was structured and how it worked.
- He passed away in 2002 at 96 years old.
