jan 1, 1075 BC - Split of Samaritanism and Judaism [Samaritan tradition]
Description:
According to Samaritan tradition and the Samaritan Torah, there had been an Israelite temple at Mt. Gerizim since the Israelite tribes arrived in Canaan after the Exodus, in the time of Joshua.
Samaritan tradition claims that the high priest Eli (documented in the Book of Samuel in the Tanakh), created a schism and founded an alternate place of worship in Shiloh. Followers of Eli eventually became the modern Jewish people, while followers of the Mt. Gerizim temple became the Samaritans.
Samaritans are an Israelite people who consider a version of the Torah sacred and consider Mt. Gerizim in the Land of Israel their holiest site.
Samaritan history, where it differs from Jewish history, is not represented in this timeline.
