jan 1, 722 BC - Split of Samaritanism and Judaism [Jewish tradition]
Description:
Jewish tradition, backed up by accounts in the Tanakh, claims that the Samaritans are descendants of foreign people who the Assyrian Empire brought in to replace the deported Israelite tribes, as well as some remnants of those deported tribes, who together adopted a modified and corrupted form of Judaism.
The split between this community and the Jewish community was further deepened around 448 BCE when some of the returning Jewish exiles led by Ezra fought with the Samaritans.
Samaritans are an Israelite people who consider a version of the Torah sacred and consider Mt. Gerizim in the Land of Israel their holiest site.
Samaritan history, where it differs from Jewish history, is not represented in this timeline.
