feb 16, 2016 - Veterans, pros and grommets: skaters hit Albany's heritage Snake Run
Description:
The Guardian Online
From 66-year-old skate champion Russ Howell to eight-year-old rising star Isi Campbell, skaters of all stripes and ages celebrate the 40th anniversary of Albany’s Snake Run, part of the Perth international arts festival. Australia’s oldest purpose-built skate park, it made its debut in 1976 after a group of the town’s kids, with council support, raised funds, designed the run and even pitched in to its construction. Some of those teenage skaters, including a now 55-year-old Laurie Terlick, returned to Albany to once again face the Snake Run’s infamously steep descent, wave-shaped walls and skin-scraping uneven surface
