apr 20, 1971 - Swann v. Charlotte- Mecklenburg

Description:

After the Supreme Court's decision for Brown v. Board, there was little progress in integrating schools. The Supreme Court then revisited another example, Charlotte-Mecklenburg, North Carolina, school system where there were 14,000 black students
that attended schools that were at least 99 percent black. Swann v. Charlotte- Mecklenburg was truly a result of the ineffective action that school systems took to integrate.

The Supreme Court ruled that once violations of previous mandates for attempting to desegregating schools happened, district courts had broad powers to fix the issue. This resulted in a positive step forward in integrating school districts; however, the system in place was not perfect and still had flaws as school districts still had trouble integrating.
