jan 1, 1638 - John Locke

Description:

Another vital philosopher at the time was John Locke. An English philosopher who believed that God gives us inalienable natural rights that no government can take away. He thought everyone is entitled to life, liberty, and property and that individuals derive their rights from God and the government has to respect that. This type of thinking fueled a rise in middle-class authority. It can be concluded that john Lock's beliefs helped cultivate the French and American revolutions. There are similarities between the basis of the American Revolution and the words of the English philosopher John Locke. Locke's idea of natural rights, life, and liberty was used in the Declaration of Independence.  People of the American Revolution used these ways of thinking and fought for their natural rights that they believed the government couldn't take away. The Enlightenment  thinkers also inspired the French Revolution; they used the ideals of liberty and equality to overthrow Louis XVI and the French monarchy.
