jan 20, 1939 - "Strange Fruit" Billie Holiday

Description:

Billie Holiday sing it for the first time in the Cafe society in New York. It was originally a poem writed by a jewish american writer to protest against lynchings (public executions of the blacks). In fact, even if the black people was free, they were victims of racism and hatred, the "strange fruit" designates the blacks sometimes hanging from the trees like fruits, it's a sad song, not like swing (popular music in the same era).
