Rev 16:18
18 And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.
19 And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.
20 And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.
21 And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.


This event will happen BEFORE the Saviour comes again.

Looking at Johns revelation as he saw it, The battle of Armageddon happens before this event (Rev 16:16-17)

This event is also described as happening while the 7th Angel pours out his vail of wrath.

We can pinpoint this event by triangulating it with it's mention in other scripture

Rev11:11-13
11 And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.
12 And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.
13 And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven.

this scripture describes connected events that will happen as a result of the Great earthquake.
It happens AFTER the two prophets are resurrected. a 10th part of the city Jerusalem falls. 7000 men die.


D&C 29:13-16
13 For a trump shall sound both long and loud, even as upon Mount Sinai, and all the earth shall quake, and they shall come forth—yea, even the dead which died in me, to receive a crown of righteousness, and to be clothed upon, even as I am, to be with me, that we may be one.

14 But, behold, I say unto you that before this great day shall come the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall be turned into blood, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and there shall be greater signs in heaven above and in the earth beneath;
15 And there shall be weeping and wailing among the hosts of men;
16 And there shall be a great hailstorm sent forth to destroy the crops of the earth.

This scripture adds another event into the sequence to give more accuracy to the timing.
"The Sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall be turned to blood and the stars shall fall from heaven

Now triangulate this event with another Scripture...
D&C 88:87
87 For not many days hence and the earth shall tremble and reel to and fro as a drunken man; and the sun shall hide his face, and shall refuse to give light; and the moon shall be bathed in blood; and the stars shall become exceedingly angry, and shall cast themselves down as a fig that falleth from off a fig tree.

this scripture describes both the great earthquake AND the sun being darkened happening at the same time.



Now add Joel's witness of this event
Joel 2:30-31
30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.
31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, BEFORE the great and the terrible bday of the Lord come.

Joel 3:15-16
15 The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining.
16 The Lord also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the Lord will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.

D&C45:40-42
40 And they shall see signs and wonders, for they shall be shown forth in the heavens above, and in the earth beneath.
41 And they shall behold blood, and fire, and vapors of smoke.
42 And BEFORE the day of the Lord shall come, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon be turned into blood, and the stars fall from heaven.

D&C 45:47-48 tells us the CAUSE of the great Earthquake. It is when the Lord sets his foot upon the Mount of Olives

47 Then shall the arm of the Lord fall upon the nations.
48 And then shall the Lord set his foot upon this amount, and it shall cleave in twain, and the earth shall tremble, and reel to and fro, and the heavens also shall shake.

Ilands flee and the whole earth returns to how it was before the flood as one land mass.

It is supposed that a giant meteorite could be the cause of all these events.
