Description:
The WTO replaced the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT). WTO expanded GATT's authority to negotiate trade agreements , settle disputes, and enforce compliance with them. Critics complained that the WTO and World Bank favored business interests over environmental concerns and workers' rights. With these disagreements, WTO had positively exposed people to new ideas, technology, and communications through economic globalization. Nations involved in free trade have often became more democratic.
