18h 24min, may 23, 1994 y - North American Free Trade Agreement

Description:

Originally proposed by the Bush administration in 1992, but it was turned down by congress. It called for the gradual removal of trade restrictions among the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Most labor leaders, environmentalists, and liberal Democrats opposed NAFTA. They argued it would force American manufacturers to relocate to Mexico. With it going in effect in 1994, the three countries signed agreements covering environmental protection, safety standards, and workers' rights.
