The Scholars' Alliance for Academic Freedom joined hands with a number of professional bodies in Hong Kong, including the Hong Kong Professional Teachers' Unions, Progressive Lawyers Group, Progressive Teachers' Alliance, etc. to hold a press conference to express their opposition to the amendments.The alliance said its petition launched in late February of 2019 against the government's amendments was co-signed by 166 academics and executives from overseas and local universities.
