Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian hosted a regular press conference and was asked what the Chinese side had to say about the statement issued by the U.S. State Department following the recent arrest of Jimmy Lai Chi-ying and others. Zhao said the U.S. side was blatantly interfering in Hong Kong's rule of law and judicial independence under the banner of so-called human rights and freedom, and was grossly interfering in Hong Kong's affairs, urging the U.S. side to respect Hong Kong's rule of law and judicial independence and stop interfering in Hong Kong's affairs and China's internal affairs.
