The ironic thing about this event, is that John never pleaded guilty. He constantly denied the fact that he had killed his wife, even when everybody knew what had actually happened.
As the book (The Secret Lives of Sergeant John Wilson by: Lois Simmie) states:
""John Wilson, the charge against you is that on September 27, 1918, you did deliberately and with malice aforethought. murder your wife, Mary Wilson, by a shotgun blast to the head. How do you plead?" "Not guilty" (Simmie, pg. 185).
