John took his gun and killed a couple of geese. After finishing that task, he also used the same gun on his wife. After murdering her, John buried her underneath a culvert near Waldheim.
He tried to burn his own car at the same place where he had buried his wife to try and cover the murder. After finishing this act, John stumbled up the lane to the house of one of the threshers.
Later that day the thresher and his family gave John a ride down to Blaine Lake where the marriage ceremony would take place.
