jul 16, 1912 - July 1912 (Exact date not known)- John left on a ship to Canada.
Description:
In 1911 a money scandal occurred where John stole money from Polly's families greenhouse business to pay off a debt in his own family. Motivated by the shame the money scandal left to his reputation, and lured in by the propaganda, John tucked his tail between his legs and sailed to Saskatoon which is located in Canada.. He promised his pregnant wife Polly, and little son George that he would be back in 1 year.
The trip was not very pleasant as the book states:
""The grub was dished up in washtubs and you helped yourself. It took twelve days to make the crossing, and I want to tell you the North Atlantic is no place to be in April." Since there was no privacy with two thousand people jammed together, Wilson spent most his time on deck, where the air was fresh" (Simmie, pg. 11).
