jan 1, 1996 - Asch Studies on
conformity
Description:
The experimenter had Ss seated as #6 in a row of 7 chairs. They would then be shown a line of a certain length and would be asked which of the 3 other lines was the same length. The confederates in the other 6 chairs would give the wrong answer, and they found that usually by the 3rd round of asking, the Ss would give the wrong answer too. They found that 75% Ss conformed at least one time, with 37% of responses being conforming.
We don't want to be the odd-man-out, or have room for embarassment.
