Men and women of the same mathematic ability were given the same math test. Some groups of men and women were told that a difference in scores was expected between men and women, and the other group was not told this. They found that the women who were told they were expected to score lower than the men typically did score lower than the men, while the women who were not told scored the same as their male counterparts.
