On November 15, after just five days as Peru’s interim president, Manuel Merino resigned. During Merino’s short term presidency, there were violent protests across the country after the impeachment of Martin Vizcarra. Vizcarra was accused of corruption. The protests left at least two people dead and 94 injured. On November 16, Peru’s Congress appointed lawmaker Francisco Sagasti as the new interim president as violent protests continued. (CNN)
