nov 16, 2020 - Britain orders Moderna vaccine for 2.5m people in April

Description:

Britain has secured five million doses of the most effective vaccine for the coronavirus but they will not be available until April, Matt Hancock said this evening.

The deal — enough to inoculate 2.5 million people — was finalised hours after the American company Moderna revealed that its vaccine was almost 95 per cent effective in preventing symptomatic Covid-19, according to early trial data. There are promising signs that it could protect the over-65 age group and that it stops severe disease.

The health secretary said that the Moderna results were “another encouraging step forward” but urged caution. “The safety data is limited and their production facilities are not yet at scale,” he said. (The Times)
