Description:
Vasco de Gama is famous for many things, but his voyage to Calicut, India is his most notable. Following the route of Bartholomew Dias, he rounded the Cape of Good Hope and kept sailing. Eventually he reached Calicut, India, in which he could get access to the Eastern trade goods coming from the spice islands. Despite losing half of his ships, he came back with the most valuable fleet in the world carrying $42,000,000 of spices. He helped to get Portugal an early lead in exploration.
