jul 21, 1964 - 1964:
Lyndon B.
Johnson
Description:
Great Society programs vastly increased the scope of government in America, and his War on Poverty was reminiscent of Roosevelt’s activism in dealing with the Depression. Johnson’s Vietnam War policies, however, tore the Democratic Party apart in 1968, leaving the door to the presidency wide open for Republican candidate Richard M. Nixon.
