jan 1, 1520 - The counter reformation

Description:

The pope sold indulgences, sayingg that you could buy your way to the heavenly kingdom, that being one reason martin wrote the 95 thesis which started the reformation. With the help of the printing press luthers ideas spread further and created like a ripple effect that allowed more people to red it and disagree with the church. Taking its cue from a successful Spanish model, the Council of Trent formally established the Roman Inquisition, to examine and try all evidence of heresy or dissent. No Catholic country was exempt. All crimes in the eyes of the Church would be handed to a local Inquisitor, equipped with all necessary means of persuasion. Guilt was always assumed, interrogation relentless, and torture deployed to squeeze the truth out of a witness."
