jan 1, 1521 - Diet of Worms
Description:
Martin Luther's defense of 99 thesis, though this isn't directly puritan it is incredibly significant for the movement as a whole. It's at this where Luther is quoted saying, "Unless I am convicted by Scripture and plain reason (I do not accept the authority of popes and councils because they have contradicted each other), my conscience is captive to the Word of God. I cannot and will not recant anything, for to go against conscience is neither right now safe... Here I stand, I can do no other, so help me God. Amen."
