Description:

The Dien Bien Phu was a engagement in the first Indochina War. This battle was between the French and the Viet Minh. When the French were quickly losing ground to the Viet Minh they decided to occupy the town of Dien Bien Phu and attempt to cut the nationalist supply against the enemy. Taken by surprise by the Viet Minh leader, Vo Nguyen Giap, they were surrounded by 40,000 men and had heavy artillery against them. The battle lasted a total of eight years ending with a win for the Viet Minh.
