apr 17, 1975 - Khmer Rouge
Description:
After the Vietnam war, Cambodia gained an ultra-communist government with a leader named Pol Pot. Pol Pot was insane and moved all of his citizens out into rural areas. He then suspected his citizens of being traitors, and tortured many of them for things that they didn’t do.
Cambodia now has a socialist government with a mostly recovered economy. The Khmer Rouge was a result of the Vietnamese war, and its history is often associated with the Vietnam war itself. If Vietnam did not show Cambodia that having a communist government was acceptable, then Cambodia might not have gone to the extreme that they did.
