nov 14, 1964 - Battle of Ia Drang

Description:

The battle of Ia Drang was the first big engagement between the U.S. and the NVA without the NVA using a hit-and-run strategy. This was the first time the U.S. used helicopters and B-52 strategic bombers in direct combat. The U.S. crushed the NVA in the direct combat.
This event showed to the north Vietnamese that it was impossible to engage with the U.S. in direct combat. They simply did not have the capabilities that the U.S. had with weaponry and skilled troops. Because of this, it forced the north Vietnamese to fight with their hit-and-run style for the rest of the war, or else they would risk another major defeat.
