aug 26, 1968 - 1968 Democratic Convention

Description:

The 1968 Democratic Convention was held in Chicago, Illinois. Lyndon B. Johnson had recently announced that he would not be running for reelection, and the convention was to decide who would be the Democrat’s next runner for election. After hearing of threats of violent protest, the leaders of the convention had a lot of security there for the event. The police used force and brutality to combat the protests.
This event was important to the Vietnam war because it showed the unrest that the Vietnam war protesters had with the government. It also shows that the government was ready to put down the protesters where they could, instead of trying to avoid conflict.
