Description:

Walter Raleigh was born in 1554 in England.  He was a writer and adventurer who was knighted in 1585 by queen Elizabeth I. He was one of the queen's favorites and would guard her.  He had three wives throughout his lifetime. He had three children, the first who didn't survive. He died in London, October 29th 1618. He settled the Roanoke Colony in what is now North Carolina. The colony disappeared without a trace. He was also known for popularizing tobacco. He was accused of treason in a plot against James I and was imprisoned and executed in the Tower of London.
