jan 1, 1633 - James II

Description:

James II and VII was King of England and Ireland as James II, and King of Scotland as James VII, from 6 February 1685 until he was deposed in the Glorious Revolution of 1688. He inherited the throne from his brother, Charles II. He was the last Catholic monarch of England, Scotland and Ireland; his reign is now remembered primarily for struggles over religious tolerance. James II was overthrown in the Glorious Revolution by William II of Orange (a Dutch prince and distant relative) and his own daughter Mary II. After his defeat at the Battle of Boyne, he lived out his life in exile under the protection of his cousin, Louis XIV of France.
