may 1, 1630 - Charles II

Description:

Charles II was King of England, Scotland, and Ireland. He was King of Scotland from 1649 until his deposition in 1651, and King of England, Scotland and Ireland from the 1660 Restoration of the monarchy until his death in 1685. Charles was the first king of England after parliament reinstated the monarchy following the departure of Richard Cromwell. He was known as the "Merry Monarch" for his lively and robust lifestyle. Nevertheless, two tragedies occurred while he was king: the Great Plague of London, and the Great Fire of London. Another important point is that he sold Dunkirk, an English holding in France, to his cousin Louis XIV. Despite all this, he is generally remembered fondly
