jan 1, 1883 - Francis Galton coins term "Eugenics"
Description:
-Francis Galton, Charles Darwin’s Cousin, came up with this term: "Eugenics"
-Believed biology is what determined people’s success in life
-Established positive and negative eugenics
-Positive eugenics encourages reproduction amongst desired groups
-Negative eugenics discourages and aims to prevent reproduction by undesirable groups
-Drew inspiration from the work of Gregor Mandel, an 1820s monk and had used selective breeding to develop strains of peas with specific traits,
-believed this could similarly work with humans
-Idea that the desired groups were not reproducing enough, meanwhile undesired groups were over-breeding
-Supported strongly by people who were involved in biology and agriculture
