This treaty ended The War of Spanish Succession. England gained Newfoundland, the Hudson Bay Territory, Gibraltar, Minorca,, and it gained control of the African slave trade, one of the most profitable industries at that time. The loss of France's territory combined with the costs of the war pushed France to rest on shaky ground financially. Britain, on the other hand, grew immensely as an empire. With control of the African Slave Trade and the ability to ship goods into Spain annually, their economic prospered. The Peace of Utrecht halted France's past expansions (change), while continuing to feed Britain's growth as a colonial power.
