Description:

The United states gained new territory from Mexico and Republicans wanted to expand into states that were above the free/slave state line previously set by the Missouri Compromise and Democrats were upset because they would not have enough land to have even numbers of free and slaves states. The compromise was devised of the Fugitive Slave Act, the boundary dispute between New Mexico and Texas, abolished the slave trade, addmited California as a free state, and organized the rest of the conquered Mexican lands into territories. This let to the Civil war because the compromise was not see well to the public and it let to many disputes on how slavery should be handled in the new territory.
