jan 1, 1572 - St. Bartholomew’s Day Massacre

Description:

Took place August 24-25 1572 in Paris France. After Admiral Coligny was stabbed to death by Besme, one of the Duke of Guise's men, and thrown out of his bedroom window, city-wide violence exploded. Parisians turned on the french protestants living in the city, killing women, children, and men. In short, it was a massacre of 6,000 to 8,000 Huguenots in Paris authorized by King Charles IX and his mother Catherine de Medici.
