A man can be heard shouting while sirens go off and a pedestrian cowers behind a bike rack. At least 14 people have been injured in the attack, including a police officer who suffered gunshot wounds.
Interior Minister Karl Nehammer said on Monday: "At the moment I can confirm we believe this is an apparent terror attack.
"We believe there are several perpetrators.
"Unfortunately, there are also several injured, probably also dead."
He said on Monday evening that while one attacker had died, at least one other was still "on the run".
He said those remaining on the loose were likely "heavily armed and dangerous."
He added: "We have brought several special forces units together that are now searching for the presumed terrorists. I am therefore not limiting it to an area of Vienna because these are mobile perpetrators.” (Express)
