jan 1, 1430 - Christe, redemptor omnium (NAWM 37)
Description:
Composer: Du Fay
The title translates to “Jesus! Redeemer of the world!” It is a hymn in fauxbourdon style, which is basically many chords in first inversion to promote cadential strength. It is a setting of the hymn for Vespers on Christmas Day. Du Fay converts the chant into a melody in the style of a modern chanson, complete with constantly varying rhythms and an embellished cadence at the end of every phrase.
