jan 1, 1548 - Church of England Decree

Description:

Edward VI, the king of England, decreed that no songs for the church of England would any longer be sung to Mary or other saints, but rather to God alone. Additionally, they would be in English, syllabic, and have no ornamentations that deviate from what’s written. This decree demonstrates a musical control reminiscent of Charlemagne and similar to the Puritans.
