Description:
Like the National Road, the Erie Canal was created during the Market Revolution. It was funded by New York legislature in 1817. It connected the hudson river to lake Erie. It enabled northern manufactures to ship goods west, and farmers to ship crops and livestock to east. The Erie Canal influenced other artificial waterways.
