Description:

An example of the outcome of the textile industry is the Lowell Mills. Companies like Lowell mills in Massachusetts began to make cloth in a single factory. Under the Lowell system, young women were recruited as laborers and lived on site in boarding houses. Communities of workers took shape around the mills. Companies also provided cultural activities and moral instruction, along with strict rules.
