feb 3, 1790 - 3. Textile Industry

Description:

The Textile Industry was a big part in the American Industrial Revolution. It began in Britain, then brought to the US. Cotton thread was spun in water-powered mills. Cotton was produced in the South, and turned into cloth in the North. This enabled massive production and necessitated lots of labor. So young women left the family farms and began to labor in the mills. This job attracted many women because they had more freedom on the mills than on their farms.
