Committed to finding a westward route to India, he asked Isabella and Ferdinand of Spain to sponsor his voyage. He landed in the Bahamas on the first voyage and Central and South America on subsequent voyages. Columbus too brought slaves after failing to make the Natives into slaves.(key concept 1.2, ii)
