oct 2, 1823 - Monroe Doctrine

Description:

The Monroe Doctrine was proposed in 1823, and it basically stated that the U.S would not like to open the United States to the Western Coast of the Country. James Monroe makes a statement that states that the U.S would not tolerate any further colonization in the Western Hemisphere. He states that “[A]s a principle in which the rights and interests of the United States are involved, that the American continents, by the free and independent condition which they have assumed and maintain, are henceforth not to be considered as subjects for future colonization”. This acted as a warning to European nations and declares the western hemisphere under an American sphere of influence.
